SANDTOWN MIDDLE SCHOOL

E.R. Mitchell Construction Company Inc. (ERM) was selected by Fulton County Schools (FCS) to construct the Sandtown Middle School.

The project has extensive site work that includes an arch bridge and sophisticated water quality ponds as well as increased state water buffer areas all designed to prevent pollution of a creek that bisects the site. The site also has large keystone retaining walls.

The middle school building has a planned occupancy of 1500 students and facility and will have 74 class rooms . The construction of the new school consists of a structural steel frame with a brick/EIFS veneer w/ pre-cast concrete accent pieces. The brick exterior of the building is also accented with a different color brick arranged in different type patterns especially at the windows and entrances.

The roof consist barrel vaulted rolled metal panels and modified bitumen flat roofs. The interior walls of the building are a combination of concrete block and damage resistant gypsum board with a class five drywall finish.

The classroom and administrative floors are covered vinyl composition tile and carpeting, while the bathroom and kitchen area have patterned ceramic tile and quarry tile respectively. At the entrance/rotunda area the VCT is arranged to form a compass oriented to true north which points to the four corners of the world.

The building also features a full service kitchen, 4 pipe fully automated HVAC system with energy management/recovery systems and up to date fiber optic data and telecommunication systems as well as a fully integrated security system real time video capability. The school also has a maple-floored gymnasium and stages as well as a full size running track complete with high jump, pole vault, shot put and soccer/football goals, a volley ball/tennis court and a regulation softball field.


 

WILSON CREEK ELEMENTARY

Fulton County Schools awarded ERM the Wilson Creek Elementary School Project in the Spring of 2003. This elementary school, located in North Fulton County near Duluth , Georgia , has approximately 49 classrooms and a regular enrollment of 775 students. Wilson Creek Elementary will open for the 2004-2005 school year.

Wilson Road Elementary School consists of a large administrative/cafeteria/gymnasium area and two classroom wings. The building's structure is comprised of structural steel and metal stud framing. Wall systems include gypsum board and CMU interior walls with brick and pre-cast concrete masonry at all exterior walls. The roof systems are a combination of gabled preformed standing-seam-metal at the wings, gymnasium, media center, and cafeteria, and mod-bit built-up roof above all of the administrative areas.

Several of the building features include a state of the art kitchen equipment and walk-in cooler/freezer, automated HVAC with energy management/recovery systems, and high-tech networked computer systems. There are two playgrounds with play structures at the North end of the wings and approximately 4 acres of play fields.
